Industrial policy is the new game in town and industrial subsidies are back in advanced economies. Be it in the name of supply chain resilience, strategic autonomy, tackling the climate crisis or boosting the digital transition: these subsidies are challenging the global trading system to its core. They are also reshaping the playing field for internationally operating firms. They strongly play into the geopolitics of today, marked by the US-China rivalry, the continuously challenging EU-US trade relationships, and an existentially threatened World Trade Organization-centric trading order.

This panel discussion will explore whether the EU and US can come together, after several years of cooperation via the EU US Trade and Technology Council, to help shape a new consensus on industrial subsidies in the global trading system. This comes at a time when the conversation about industrial subsidies has begun at the WTO.

The panel will crown the first day of the third edition of our flagship Borderlex Academy in Brussels.
